Six hot things to do this Easter weekend…

It’s all about two four-day weeks, daylight saving and eating chocolate until your eyes start to sweat. Weekends don’t get much better than this!

1. Trance, nationwide

Trance

It’s the latest offering from the-man-who-made-the-Olympics (well, the opening ceremony, at least) Mr Danny Boyle. The Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director has come up trumps with this psychological thriller starring James ‘I’m fit’ McAvoy as an art auctioneer who gets caught up with the wrong sort of people. It involves an art heist, a bit of amnesia, some hypnotism and lots of black humour. As well as some cool tunes, obvs. Oh, and a lot of nakedness…

2. Funfair and world market, Norwich

The bright lights of the waltzers and the dodgems are back for Easter in Chapelfield Gardens, while the World Village Market is taking over Gentleman’s Walk until Monday. With deli delights, French cheeses and continental crafts on offer, you can eat, shop and be merry all weekend long. There’s probably even some Easter-related chocolate to tickle your tastebuds – if you haven’t had enough of it by then (is that even possible?!).

3. Spring into Easter, Maidstone

Kent Life

Wrap up warm and get down with nature this weekend. Kent Life has an array of activities for all the fam, from bottle feeding the cute-as-a-button lambs to hanging out with the piglets, calves and chicks. And for the more active, there’s also quad biking and water zorbing, while for the kids there’s face painting and an Easter egg hunt. For more information, click here.

4. The Voice, Saturday, 7pm, BBC1

The Voice

Oh it seems like yesterday when the famous red chairs spun around to reveal the four coaches, in the shapes of Jessie J, Will.i.a,m, Danny O’Donoghue and Sir Tom Jones. Well, it was actually last year and the all-singing show is now back for its second series. Starting on Saturday evening, we’ll see a group performance from all four of the big button pushers. Tom Jones and Will.i.am singing together? Now there’s something not to be missed!

5. Rapunzel, Sadler’s Wells, London

Rapunzel

One of the UK’s best theatres is holding a two-day family festival this Friday and Saturday with games and activities going on around the whole building. The highlight of the fest is a performance of the Brothers Grimm fairytale, Rapunzel. The rather brilliant Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, has written it and it’s taking place at 2.30pm on both days. Head to Sadlerswells.com for more information.

6. National Trust Easter events, various locations

National Trust

If you fancy a bit of an outdoor adventure this weekend, then a National Trust house or garden near you has just the ticket. From Easter egg trails and egg rolling, to duck racing and egg and spoon racing, there’s sure to be an egg-based event not too far away. For a full list of participating venues, go to the National Trust website Nationaltrust.org.uk.
